Glass Aquariums OR Acrylic Aquariums

In my 30 years of fish farming, I was often asked the following question:
Which is better, glass aquariums or acrylic aquariums?
I can understand why this problem often occurs
Both glass and acrylic are transparent plastic, often used in fish tanks. At first glance, there’s not much difference between the two – both are transparent and can keep a lot of water.
It’s after you actually have every aquarium that the difference becomes apparent.
Over the years, I have many different aquariums. Some are glass. Some are acrylic.
Although I prefer glass, I don’t think acrylic will be better in some cases – I’ll get into it soon.
So keep reading, find out the advantages and disadvantages of acrylic and glass, and check what suits you.
But first of all, for those who don’t want to get caught up in technical details.

If you are a new hobby, just want a quick recommendation that suits you best – glass is a means to go.
I recommend the glass aquarium for beginners who want a tank of fewer than 150 gallons (568 liters).
The reason is simple, as I indicated in my beginner’s guide, choosing a fishbowl – you must use the acrylic fishbowl very carefully to avoid scratches, especially during cleaning.
It’s hard to understand how valuable your fish looks when you stare at a scratched tank.
Not to mention the glass aquarium is easy to put in your wallet!
These two points make the glass aquarium more suitable for beginners than the acrylic aquarium.
That just says, acrylic does have its advantage of being lighter, which makes it more suitable for large tanks – tanks so big that most beginners don’t even think about them.
